FastX Server Downloads Move to Repository

Santa Clara, CA- December 29, 2021

StarNet Communications Corp, (http://www.starnet.com) announced it now offers a much simplified method for IT managers and System Administrators to install the FastX server components on Red Hat, Ubuntu, Debian and other Linux servers.

A new Repository page on the StarNet Website will automatically install the correct FastX server libraries based on the operating system used on the Linux server.

Access to a repository is built into the Linux OS. To update to a new version of FastX, Administrators now simply tell their system to install the latest version, and it will figure out if there is a newer version available, and automatically download it. This avoids having to wait for an email announcement of a new version from StarNet, or polling the StarNet download page every so often.

The tools that download from a repository also keep track of any new dependencies that may need to be downloaded.

The StarNet repository is signed, meaning administrators know the software is genuine.

Since Fedora (e.g. RedHat) and Debian (e.g. Ubuntu) use different repository methods and different types of packaging, StarNet actually keeps a separate repository for RedHat (RPM) and Debian.

Since some customers want the latest bleeding-edge version, and some customers prefer to only install stable versions that have been evaluated for months, StarNet offers separate “preview” and “stable” repositories.

Some background:

Previously a StarNet web page showed the latest version of FastX and a link to download it. You would download the package to your system, and then install it from there.

The new way, once you run a small script to link to the StarNet repository, is to simply run a “yum”, “dnf”, or “apt-get” command to install the latest version automatically.
